White Acres Campground, Bardstown, KY

White Acres Campground located in Bardstown, KY is the only convenient rv park within close proximity to the bourbon distilleries in the area. Also, being in Bardstown provides the setting for attending the annual bourbon festival. In addition we suggest a walking tour of Bardstown to explore its historic buildings, some of which have an infamous history. Just down the road from Sympson Lake is this modest family run rv park nestled between farm fields. Reservations require a phone call as there is no on line booking. The wide paved entrance ends at the beginning of the sites. A dirt road leads to the rv sites which are gravel and KY red clay which is miserable when wet. The sites are separated by a wide expanse of lawn and the trees are trimmed up and not encroaching into the roadway allowing our 13’ height to pass unscathed. Moving thru the park and turns was not an issue with our 45’ motocoach including a tow vehicle. The sites are not level and the new section of sites recently added do not improve upon the leveling issue, although they do provide ample crushed stone to shield against the red clay. Good FHU is provided and the 50 amp service is stable. Free WiFi is provided and surprisingly the broadband supported streaming with occasional buffering. Our OTA (over the air antenna) received several local channels.
An old barn houses the bathrooms and showers as well as a laundry. We were dismayed by the cramped quarters of the bathroom/shower area and would not use them due to the ancient and unimproved condition. We use our own shower and bathroom so this is not an issue. That being said it is location, location which makes this campground our first choice. Proximity to Bardstown, the bourbon capitol, and the many distilleries in the area make this our choice.
The Takeaway: a pastoral  and rustic rv park within striking distance of the Bourbon Trail, Bourbon Festival and many iconic distilleries. There is little in the way of anything but rustic campgrounds in this area. Unpleasant and cramped bath/showers in an old barn. Well maintained grounds with trees trimmed up and back from the road; sites are not level, and the red clay is miserable when wet. Good FHU and stable 50 amp service. A quite respite from the energetic environs of the Bourbon Festival. We visited September 2014 and May 2019.
