Castaways RV Resort, Berlin, MD

Castaways RV Resort located Berlin, MD is a vacation place complete with concierge service. Operating under the Sun Resort corporate banner this rv park offers a mixture of rv sites, cottages, rv rentals and tent sites. Easily accessed from the South using Route 13 to Route 113; from the West via Route 50; or from the North taking Route 1 the drive is comfortable on mostly 4-lane highway. The entranceway winds its way thru Eagle’s Landing Golf Course and alongside Ocean City Municipal Airport emptying into a large parking area in front of the Welcome Center. During peak season this area can become congested, however the efficient check-in process keeps the traffic flowing. The navigation of interior roads is unencumbered by trees and shrubs and feasible to drive to ones site in a 45’ motorcoach with tow vehicle attached.
Located directly on Sinepuxent Bay, and protected from the Atlantic by Assateague Island, is their own private sandy beach and adjacent dog beach. This is a fun and relaxing place, Bark Beach, with dogs obviously enjoying the water and freedom to play, with an adjacent no dog beach area and further down the shoreline the Jackspot Tiki Bar,(with live music) and the Snack Shack.
This is truly a resort with more amenities than usually offered at destination rv parks. A full service café serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; two dog parks, a separate gated rv park compound-Club Castaways; and free shuttle to Ocean City, Berlin, and Assateague Island National Park are a few of the numerous services offered.
And aside from the on-premises activities the local area proffers its own charming historic towns and tourist centers. Just twelve minutes to the north is the tourist town Ocean City, MD with its iconic boardwalk; a must visit. And only 8 miles west is the historic town of Berlin, MD with its historic Main Street featuring commercial and residential structures boasting 47 structures on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bath/Shower/Laundry buildings are dispersed about the campground and are relatively clean, considering the heavy usage, and contemporary. The park is divided, for reservation purposes, into 5 areas plus a tent area. There is not much difference except location and proximity to the water; and all sites offer FHU. Cable, WiFi and a picnic table are provided. Backing into sites is somewhat of a challenge with a 45’ motorcoach, given the narrow streets and parked cars (we had to request other guests to move their trucks so as to allow us the required turning radius to back into our site), however not a big deal. Sites are rather close and this is endemic of any oceanfront rv park we have visited.
The centrally located pool is situated next to the main building (this building houses the well provisioned store, the Bay Breeze Café, the Sweet Spot [Barista staffed serving coffees and ice cream], and an exercise room); adjacent is a dog wash station, mini-golf and a basketball court.
Sites offer stable electric, water and sewer connections all in good working condition. WiFi internet using our Winegard ConnecT provided a signal of 82%, -51dBm adequately streaming music for Pandora, Prime Music, Google Play. Also we were able to stream in HD movies, although at times the quality morphed into SD or came to a standstill; still it exceeded expectations given the large capacity (330+ sites) of this campground. Our Winegard Rayzor Automatic OTA (over the air antenna) received numerous HD channels from nearby Ocean City.

The Takeaway: a popular rv resort on the far eastern shore of MD (not to be confused with the ‘Western  Shores’ nor the ‘Eastern Shore’) protected from the Atlantic by Assateague Island and boasting its own private sandy beach with bar and food cabana. It offers many amenities and is close to famed Ocean City, Berlin, and Assateague Island National Park. A destination campground serviced by well maintained multiple bath/shower/laundry facilities, cafes’ and free shuttle bus. A good vacation spot to relax with family and to explore Worcester County. We visited August 2017 and August 2019.
