The brand new Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Rail Train (manufactured in Switzerland) has finally begun operation after the old Cog Railway was discontinued three years ago. The multi-year renovation includes new train cars and engine, new rails, and a renovated summit house. The Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway runs to the Summit of Pikes Peak at 14,110 feet. These pictures feature the new train as well as pictures of some of the retired cars now parked at the Colorado Railroad Museum, Golden, CO. It is interesting to note that the cog railway locomotives morphed over the years from steam, to internal combustion engines (a Cadillac V-8), to diesel-electric.
