Powder River Hike, Buffalo, WY-An Easy Forest Road Hike

Powder River hike is an easy forest service dirt road with little elevation gain/loss. The payoff is having lunch at the Powder River (really a creek) among the wild flowers and mountain vistas. From Buffalo, WY take Hwy 16 west and turn onto Road#29, bear left at the fork onto Road 450 and drive appox. 1.2 miles and park (if one desires a longer hike then park back at the fork in the road). From being parked approx. 1.2 miles in, the round trip hike is 6.2 miles(An alternative is to hike the loop (Road #450 loops around to join Road #29 exiting on Hwy 16). See this Google Map Link.  As previously mentioned this is hiking in the USFS and many hikes will be on forest fire roads. Not the most exciting, however the payoffs at the end/turnaround points make it worthwhile. Enjoy the pictures and the video (video link).

The Takeaway: a mild dirt road hike with the payoff having lunch by Powder River amidst solitude (no one appears to use this road), wildflowers and grand vistas.
