One of the significant exhibits is Catlin's North American Indian Portfolio, by George Catlin (July 26, 1796-December 23, 1872). It cannot be overstated that his paintings and narratives play a significant role in understanding the Plains Indians. His noteworthy contribution, like that of photographer Edward S. Curtis (see my essay on The Brinton Museum), documents the lives of the Native American Indian in paintings. Below is a sampling of Catlin's color plates on exhibit.
