Leonardo’s Pizza, Waves, NC is located in a small strip mall.  We ordered for take-out some wings and a meat lovers pizza. This family run business provided us with exceptional food. The couple are simply delightful and congenial. The chicken is fresh quality as the wings were tasty, moist and cooked to a perfect light brown skin crust; it is notable that wings are so often prepared and served as fast food with the accompanying fast food blandness-these wings certainly were not. The pizza surprised us since even so called gourmet ‘pizzaiolos’ are often over-priced and disappointing. The key is always the dough and the sauce, and this did not disappoint; the dough was fresh and sweet complimenting the red sauce’s tomato flavor. The cheese and meat toppings were fresh and plentiful. This is definitely worth the drive from anywhere in OBX to enjoy homemade consistent quality pizza and wings.

The Takeaway: Consistently high quality pizza featuring fresh local ingredients and outstanding dough and tomato sauce. The wings offer superior freshness baked to a golden crust that ignites the tongue with wonderful flavors. These are not your normal frozen wings flash broiled and served coated with sauce.
