Lafayette KOA, Scott, LA

Lafayette KOA is located in Scott, LA along the I10 corridor. So why would we stay here, and stay at a KOA one asks? Well, after exiting the FL Panhandle and visiting some great restaurants in the Big Easy we make a point of heading to Breaux Bridge for the best crawfish, gumbo, etoufee, and boudin.  This is a 22 mile back-track from Scott to Breaux Bridge. The crawfish market parking lot is immense so we leave Lafayette KOA in the morning East on I10 to Crawfish Town USA , pull in with our 45’ motorcoach with tow vehicle and load the freezer up with all their gastronomic delights. Adjacent to their seafood market is their signature restaurant and behind it is the large rv resort of Cajun Palms RV Resort. Cajun Palms is obviously more convenient however they are very popular and sometimes are fully booked so Lafayette KOA is our fall back. 
This KOA is old and entering it appears a bit rustic, and it is. As one traverses the old narrow road alongside the tree lined (they have done a good job of trimming the trees up) lake the composition of guests is primarily of long-term guests on dirt sites. However, recently developed at the back side of the lake are 17 new sites. These boast extra wide and long concrete pads with ample space between sites. The sites directly on the lake offer, in addition to the concrete pad, a concrete walk leading to a concrete patio with a pagoda complete with furniture and a charcoal grill directly overlooking the lake. Kudos to this KOA for offering such an improved experience. The FHU is all new and the 50 amp service was stable and supported a constant 60 amp draw by our coach. 
The park has a large pool (there is an old abandoned one near the park entrance) next to the welcome center, a large playground, an 18 hole mini-golf, and a fenced dog park. The new section does not offer a bathhouse and we did not visit the bathhouse/laundry in the welcome center, however their pictures depict it as clean and recently updated.
Behind the welcome center the lake and a large dock provide an assortment of water toys, i.e paddle boats, kayaks, etc.
We did not access their WiFi instead choosing to use our Pixel phone as a hot spot and use our over-the-air antenna to watch local television.

The takeaway: An older KOA that has been fairly well maintained offering a large swimming pool, fishing on their lake, recreational facilities, and water toys. The new section is obviously to be booked, especially for big rigs, for a pleasant and upgraded experience. As mentioned this is a fall back location to staying in Breaux Bridge (Cajun Palms RV Resort) and would also work as a stopover along the I10 corridor.
