Cajun Heritage RV Park, Breaux Bridge, LA

Cajun Heritage R/V Park located Breaux Bridge, LA is a find, and an accidental discovery. And let me add, as a way of disclosure, that my wife is old family Cajun Girl. So naturally we frequent the bayou of Louisiana and her family. This trip from southern Florida, across the Panhandle was focused on a stop to load up on crawfish and other Cajun delicacies (boudin, alligator, catfish, etc) in Henderson. The plan was to stop over just down the road in the St. Martin Parish of Butte La Rose to a favorite local campground. I was about to comment that this is a little known campground, however it seems others have discovered this diamond in the rough as there are reviews of it on almost every rv camp review website. And this probably attests to why it was full when we arrived early Thursday morning (in past years we have shared this campground with just the locals). After having a friendly’ no-room-at-the-inn’ conversation with the neighbors we unhooked and turned around. This is when we remembered the rv campground we passed on the way in traveling down the Atchafalaya River Hwy. So we stopped in and paid for a site; what a pleasant surprise. Located only a short distance from the exit for the Louisiana Welcome Center on I10 is this gem of a park.  The primary roads in the park are paved and the sites are gravel with picnic tables. This expansive campground provides roomy sites along with clean bath/shower rooms, a pool and a boat launch for excellent backcountry exploration or fishing. This is definitely a family campground and accordingly the pool is non-stop youngsters frolicking in the crystal clear pool.

Although we were walk-ins their website utilizes a state-of-the-art reservation system to pick a particular site and reserve it. As I have previously noted in other reviews this is the future and very few rv parks are yet to offer such convenient and contemporary booking systems.

Located within the Atchafalaya Basin in St. Martin Parish there is plenty to keep one occupied.  A short ride down I10 East is Henderson, a rural farming community offering swamp tours, marketshops, crawfish and boudin, restaurants, a prehistoric park and the best fresh water fishing in the south.

Our FHU was standard and provided 50 amp service without any issues. WiFi was disappointing with a reading of 60% signal and -67dBm. Accordingly we could not access the internet nor email. Fortunately our Pixel phones worked well as a hot spot. OTA (over the air antenna) received a couple of TV stations in SD. Trash was picked up at our site throughout the day. A bonus was the live music over the weekend which we enjoyed as the local band performed Cajun music with spirit in the outdoor pavilion.

The Takeaway: Cajun Heritage R/V Park offers a real Cajun backcountry experience with live Cajun bands, a boat launch with access to Lake Bigeaux and Bayou La Rose. A large well maintained pool and clean bath/shower rooms. Conveniently located a short distance from the Louisiana Welcome Center exit off I10. Disappointing internet connection-nonexistent; however the live band, clean pool and boat launch more than compensate for not being connected.
