Pandion Ridge RV Resort, Orange Beach, AL is a Sun RV Resort and an anomaly among the typical Sun campgrounds. This relatively new park has been well designed with wide roads and easy turns into each site situated on flat acreage. The office and clubhouse is centered in the park next to the pond and houses the bathouse/showers, laundry room and vending machines. Directly behind this building is a large crystal clear ‘L’ shaped pool with hot tub and a nearby gas fire pit. There is a separate adult pool located midway, and across the road another community gas fire pit. Further west is a second bathouse/showers, laundry and vending facilities. On the eastern edge of the park, opposite the clubhouse, are sand volleyball, pickle ball courts and a fenced dog area. This does not qualify as a ‘resort’ lacking the necessary restaurant(s) and activity venues.
The Orange Beach area offers much in the way of fine cuisine, and attractions. We would recommend Gulf State Park Pier which offers a great fishing pier or, if not so inclined to drop a hook, an enjoyable stroll out the pier over the ocean. And not to pass up is the infamous 1964 Flora-Bama Yacht Club serving pub food and live music overlooking Old River; for shoppers there is the lively The Wharf with its many stores, restaurants, music venues, and attractions.
Navigating in the park is uncomplicated since the landscaping, though attractive, has placed trees so as to not interfere with a large motorcoach. The staging area is rather difficult and actually requires unhooking before proceeding to your assigned site. The rotary design in front of the clubhouse does not permit a turnaround in a 45’ motorcoach with tow; and proceeding into the staging area presents turns that are just too tight. That being said, as previously mentioned the roads are wide and all sites are angled with wide aprons for ease of maneuvering onto your site. The pads are all concrete and level. Additionally there is unusually large green space between sites contributing to the overall ambiance and privacy of the campground. The pull thru sites are particularly generously sized and all sites are concrete with large concrete patios and a picnic table.
Since this park is only a few years old all facilities boast contemporary and clean facilities; the bath/shower areas show particularly well exhibiting cleanliness. The WiFi registered 15.8/4.31 Mbps which is enough broadband to stream music and movies in HD. The FHU is standard mounted on a marine type R2D2 pedestal and we continuously drew 65 amps without any issues. Our OTA (over the air antenna) received multiple stations from Pensacola, and Mobile in HD (some suffered from signal degradation due to distance).
The Takeaway: Pandion Ridge RV Resort offers large level concrete sites with generous green space between pads. Several years old the campground provides new facilities, clean well maintained bath/showers, and laundry facilities. Navigation and parking is undemanding since the concrete roads and sites are wide and level. Located directly on Rte 9 affords central access to fine dining and local attractions. WiFi is robust supporting streaming of music and movies. This newer park, part of the Sun RV Resort family, offers a value driven alternative to the pricey waterfront campgrounds and a pleasant atmosphere in which to relax by their two pools.
